Thousands face another week of T5 misery at Heathrow says the Observer
British Airways warned last night that the disruption that has plagued Heathrow's Terminal Five could run through this week as it emerged that 15,000 bags have yet to be returned to their owners. This figure is three times higher than BA had originally admitted to. Following three days of cancellations which saw more than 150 flights grounded and thousands of passengers disrupted, the airline, which has exclusive use of T5, said that a further 37 flights would not take off today.

THE Queen and her family are facing an “island of noise” from aircraft over Windsor Castle if the government goes ahead with plans for runway expansion at Heathrow.
Internal government documents show that the castle would be close to a noise “hot spot” caused by an intersection of flight paths from the airport.
The sound could be so intense that the 900-year-old castle, where 10 sovereigns including Henry VIII and Charles I are buried, could qualify for a grant for double-glazing and noise insulation.

Hundreds of illegal immigrants – including a suspected murderer and other criminals –are working in care homes in Britain, a leaked Home Office report has disclosed.
In some homes more than half the employees have entered the country illegally and are now being entrusted with caring for old and vulnerable people. The immigration intelligence report found that one illegal worker was a murder suspect from the Philippines and others had been involved in the “abuse and mistreatment” of elderly people.

A US warplane strafed a house in Basra killing eight civilians, including two women and a child, Iraqi police said yesterday. The house was in the city's Hananiyah district, which is a stronghold of the Mehdi Army militia of the Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

British troops became involved in the intense fighting in Basra last night as clashes continued between Iraqi government forces and Shia militia.
Military sources admitted that the militia had consolidated a number of 'criminal strongpoints' in the city. The involvement of the British is the first time UK forces have engaged militias since the Iraqi army operation, personally supervised by the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, began in the city last Tuesday morning.
